Fish Friday Reviews
The first Friday of every month is ‘Fish Friday’ so we decided to give it a try.
The buffet starter had a very wide choice of seafood. (The beetroot cured salmon was delightful.) For mains my wife had sea bass, and I had hake with chorizo. Both were excellent. Finished off with summer pudding and all washed down with a decent bottle of prosecco.
The service was good and the staff friendly. The whole evening could not be faulted.
Dinner was there Friday Fish night. This included a glass of Prosecco, with a buffet starter and a choice of hot cooked mains. The starter was simply incredible! A huge table laid out with king prawns, tuna carpaccio, oysters, caviar, mackerel, two types of smoked salmon, a selection of sauces, salad, bread and more. It was delicious and plentiful. The main was also perfectly cooked and delicious too. We had the Hake with clams. Very tasty. We did order two sets of greens and asked if it was possible to have some new potatoes to compliment.
For dessert I had the special which was a Crepe Suzette. The waiter wheeled over a trolley and began heating up and flambéing the ingredients before us – a nice surprise. We chatted while he cooked. He was a very friendly and nice chap and a pleasure to talk to. We discovered that he used to sing as an Operatic Tenor and jokingly my date asked for a song. He didn’t blink and asked for our choice. He obliged and quite beautifully gave us a quick rendition. It was great!! The Crepe Suzette was also very very tasty and wonderfully prepared! My partners cheesecake was also delicious.
All the staff on the night couldn’t have made us feel more welcome and the personal touch of having an off-menu dessert prepared for us made us feel very special indeed.
For fans of seafood, I can’t recommend Fish Fridays at Wivenhoe House highly enough.
