Backstage, however, a different drama was unfolding. The excitement of the win was tainted by a creeping unease. Eli, the show’s producer and co-host, and the wife of the head judge had vanished. She was supposed to be presenting the prize, but thirty minutes after the news break, she was nowhere to be found. Whispers circulated like a venomous wind: Eli disappeared willingly, or was something more sinister at play?
