brasserie bar and restaurant

The brasserie at Wivenhoe House, near to the pretty quayside village of Wivenhoe near Colchester, is inspired by the concept of a classic brasserie, bringing a little taste of France to the Essex countryside. We offer a winning combination of classic dishes and modern cuisine, to be enjoyed in our attractive and informal setting and delivered with attentive service.

The extensive menus offer a wide-ranging choice, making the most of fresh local produce. Our Plat du Jour ensures each experience of the brasserie is as unique and exciting as the last. We also have an express ‘Plat Rapide’ lunchtime menu for those short on time.

From Monday to Friday, leisurely lunchtime diners can also enjoy a delicious prix fixe menu (changing on a weekly basis) designed, cooked and served by hospitality students from the acclaimed Edge Hotel School. Working alongside Head Chef Simon Morris and his team, the students will prepare classic dishes such as salmon and dill fishcakes, steak and kidney pudding and fruit crumble with custard. They will be guided by Restaurant Manager Lionel Lachasseigne and his team on service.

The menu at £15 per person will be for three courses and includes tea or coffee.  It will be served between 12noon and 2 pm in the Alcove of the Brasserie and can be pre-booked by tables seating no more than six individuals by calling our team on 01206 863 666.

Please note this menu will change on a weekly basis so be sure to keep an eye on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for any new offers and launches!

Our Sunday lunch menu features our award-winning ‘Best Roast Dinner’ selection, making the brasserie the perfect lunch venue to while away lazy days.

Fish Friday is on the first Friday of every month and has built up an enviable reputation in the local area, be sure to book in advance to ensure a space at these sell out events.

Our bottomless Brunch is available on the last Saturday of every month including brunch and unlimited Prosecco, Becks Vier or House Wine.

We have a special children’s menu designed to offer the same quality food as all of our menus. There’s space outside for some fresh air after lunch and young artists can enjoy colouring their own version of Wivenhoe House during the meal. High chairs are also available.

Group bookings up to 24 can be catered for within the brasserie restaurant. For parties over 24, please visit our events pages and get in touch with our team to arrange your special occasion.

Whether approaching Wivenhoe House from London and the South or Ipswich and the North via the A12, take the exit marked Colchester (A133). Follow the A133 towards Clacton, ignore the entrance to the Knowledge Gateway, continue along the A133 then take the B1028 for Wivenhoe before turning right into Boundary Road, then right again into Park Road. The entrance for Wivenhoe House is shared with the University of Essex but Park Road leads you through Wivenhoe Park and you will be able to see the glorious house from the road.
