Hospitality Assured, a standard for service and business excellence in the hospitality industry, has awarded Wivenhoe House Hotel, Colchester a luxury 4 star hotel, Hospitality Assured accreditation.
Wivenhoe House had their award confirmed following the in-depth accreditation process that encourages businesses to look at their scope of operations from a quality perspective. Organisations being assessed have to meet nine requirements including strategic, organisational and delivery standards.
Gaining the Hospitality Assured Standard for Service & Business Excellence is a commendable achievement in itself and is a credit to the pioneering vision that makes this style of onsite practical and academic study the first of its kind in the United Kingdom. The strong leadership at Wivenhoe House encourages the development of its people and there is a friendly and caring team working ethos providing the foundations of successful service delivery.
In 2012 the owners of Wivenhoe House Hotel, the University of Essex invested £5 million to create a 40 bedroom four star country house style hotel with a modern contemporary twist. The hotel is partnered with the onsite Edge Hotel School, a joint creation by the University of Essex and the Edge Foundation, a charity dedicated to raising the status of technical and professional education, who also invested £5 million. Students at the hotel school benefit from work rotations at Wivenhoe House during their studies giving them practical exposure to industry for their BA (Hons) in Hotel Management or Events Management degree courses.
Although there are shared service lines with the university such as recruitment and finance, Wivenhoe House is operated as a separate limited company.

Hospitality Assured is widely used in the UK and worldwide. Through a franchise agreement with the Caribbean Tourism Organisation it is used by more than 50 tourism and hospitality businesses across the Caribbean.
