Please note that due to ongoing roadworks in Colchester, travel to and from Wivenhoe House may be interrupted. Here we have put together a handy guide to the latest information and some alternative routes

About the Ipswich Road,  & Harwich Road Scheme

The scheme will see the replacement of the double roundabouts located at Ipswich Road and Harwich Road with a single roundabout at each location. The carriageway between Ipswich Road and Harwich Road junctions will also be widened to accommodate two formal lanes in each direction. The scheme will include upgrading existing pedestrian crossings to signal controlled crossings and general improvements to the current off-carriageway cycle and footway provisions.

Advanced Notice: Road Closure – Ipswich Road, Colchester improvement scheme

Please be advised that preparations are being made to close Ipswich Road, Colchester from the Junction of Fenwick Drive in a southerly direction for a distance of approximately 40m to its junction with Old Coach Road, this is a continuation of the works on the northern side of the Fenwick Road junction and will remove the requirement for BT to close the junction again for works in the new year.

Details of planned closure/s: 00:00 29 October 2018 –  20:00 2 November 2018

The works will be carried out during the working hours of 07.00 – 20.00 however due to safety reasons the traffic management is required at all times. Some of the works being undertaken will require the use of noisy equipment and may cause some disturbance, however we will try and complete these activities when they will cause the least inconvenience to you.

October 2018

The southern side of Ipswich Road, Colchester will be closed from 07.00 on 02/10/18 for a duration of 4 weeks. This is to allow Anglian water to safely undertake diversionary works across the main road. Full diversions will be put in place and signage will be symbolised with a square (as there is also a Highways England diversion in place for night works on the A12 which brings them through the works).

Suggested Diversion

If travelling from the A12 we suggest that you take the A120 to Great Bromley. Take a slight left onto the A133 and follow the road through Frating and Elmstead. Image below

When using a SATNAV please enter the location WIVENHOE, Colchester (do not use a postcode as this will direct you to the wrong side of Wivenhoe Park).

Take the exit marked Colchester (A133)
Follow the A133 towards Clacton
Please follow signs for WIVENHOE
You will see a black sign on your right which says, ‘Wivenhoe House & The Brasserie’, turn right here into PARK ROAD
The entrance for Wivenhoe House is shared with the University of Essex, but PARK ROAD leads you through Wivenhoe Park and you will be able to see our beautiful house from the road on your right
CONTINUE to follow the signs for WIVENHOE HOUSE and it will lead you to us.

By train:

Colchester station, Colchester Town station, Wivenhoe station and Hythe stations are all between 10-15 minutes from Wivenhoe House by car. Trains run between London (Liverpool Street) and Colchester station every 10-20 minutes. The journey takes around an hour. Also connect with Colchester from Norwich, Ipswich, Felixstowe & Harwich. Some trains from London (Liverpool Street) also stop at Wivenhoe Station. When travelling from the Clacton/Walton direction, alight at Wivenhoe or Hythe Stations.

By plane:

Stansted airport is approximately 45 minutes from Wivenhoe House by car. Helicopter pad coordinates are 603200/223900.
